It was 4th hour in mythology with Mr. Becker. The bell rang and Mr. Becker asked everyone to take out there comparison matrix over what we read over the Maori cosmogony. As Mr. Becker is going up and down the rows checking people’s homework, everyone is frantically looking for where they misplaced their assignment and attempting to finish it so they receive a grade for it. We start a discussion by recapping what we read and how the gods and people relate to one another throughout the story. Then we talk about who the supreme beings are and how they are important and their intentions in the story. Mr. Becker then begins another topic of whether if we agree on incest and what the meaning of it is when told in myths and stories. He adds a comment of how the story is called The Creation of Cycle, but does it really have an end or a beginning, which then made me wonder about that as well. Then he goes on talking about all of the stories that we have read and talked about in class have one similar thing, and that is how man kind seems to keep making a negative impact in their time. Continuing on through the discussion, Mr. Becker adds that this 4th hour class is the largest and there are so many things that could go wrong because of that, but instead he says that it always goes well with people discussing and contributing their thoughts and ideas. As the discussion ends for the day, he assigns us to read pages 291-294 then complete a comparison matrix which will be used in class to talk about what we read.
