Taylor Stewart 6th hour As the bell rang indicating passing period, I realized that I did not have to fight the hallways today. I was pretty excited since it seems impossible for anyone alone to safely navigate through the crowds when they are only 5’4. Several students walked into class and the game show ‘What Mr. Becker’s Classroom Smells Like’ started. After intense discussion, the final answer was burnt hair. I am uncertain if that is the correct answer since it seems unlikely that someone could burn their hair without bring notice upon themselves. However, what the answer lacked in possibility, it made up for in an accurate description of what the odor smelled like. We then find out that we are watching a movie today in class, since Mr. Becker’s second hour was stolen from him. Malcolm thinks the comic is quite funny and asks if Mr. Becker has read it yet… The author of 'Hero with 100 faces' is the guru of modern mythology. Mr. Campbell is the grand master of myths. I start to question how much time he wasted reading all about different cultures. Before that thought even finished, Mr. Becker informed us that Campbell spent 2 years reading in a cabin in the woods. This broke off into a mini conversation on when he took lunch breaks and how he got his food – did he is stock for a great depression or become a hunter??? The movie that we are watching was actually a piece that PBS did on Campbell and his mono myth. Miles is pretty excited since he likes it when movies have wise people talking. The movie starts to roll, the warning page pops up telling us that unauthorized reproduction, distribution, or exhibition of this copyrighted work is illegal. We all start worrying for Mr. Becker since we don’t want him to go to jail just because our class wanted to learn about this mono myth. Once the actual movie starts, Martin Luther King jr. ‘I have a dream’ speech is the opener. From personal experiences, this opener usually entails that we will be learning something today. Halfway through the movie when they were talking about Star Wars, Rachel leans over and asks “what about Harry Potter”. I was not exactly sure what she was talking about so i just kept watching screen. The bell rang about 10 minutes later and I realize that my Tuesday is over and I get to go home. Whoo!
